Security
The return of peace has paved the way for a Tourism Boom in this beautiful Island, but as with everywhere for better security, forces carrying guns are visible. It is the law in Sri Lanka to carry an ID at all times and in a very unlikely event that you are stopped you may be asked to show it.
Most Boutiques/villas provide an in-room 'safe' or a cupboard that can be locked. Please be sensible and do not leave valuables or cash lying around when you leave the room. The beaches in Sri Lanka are not private so do not leave valuables unattended in a public place. Do not invite anyone you have just met into the boutique premises unless they are a professional and are providing you with a service.
