Our Haute Couture Collection 2024

The Haute Couture collection signifies Boutiques in Sri Lanka’s  selection of ‘crème de la crème properties’. Those that deliver a ‘luxury experience’ with exceptional quality and the utmost attention to detail from the moment you check in to the time you depart. Properties are personally visited by BISL staff and/or the assistance of luxury boutique business providers are sought in order to grade the resorts.

Criteria

Boutiques in Sri Lanka use the following criteria in grading the Haute Couture Collection.

  • The boutique hotel/ villa/ bungalow/ cottage/ camp/ manorhouse/ treehouse/ houseboat/ lodge/ chateau should follow the applicable small luxury property concepts, we have outlined.
  • The concept of Privacy and Personalized service must be followed (start to finish) by all small luxury properties
  • High level of unobtrusive, personalized service
  • Staff manners and guest etiquette
  • Arrival welcome/ departure send-off
  • Layout/ design of the property
  • Use of space and color to provide a calm and leisure environment
  • Use of sustainable amenities and minimize the use of plastic
  • Respect for nature and its surroundings
  • Provide at least one local experience
  • Recycle kitchen water/ rainwater, for plants
  • Well-ventilated spacious rooms
  • Parking should be away from the pool area for the purpose of privacy & ambiance
  • Facilities offered
  • Cleanliness
  • Hygiene condition of the property and its staff
  • Staff-to-guest ratio
  • Integrity in business, in the industry, and towards the country
  • Staff must be in smart comfortable clothing that preferably complements the local culture
  • Regular training of staff is important
  • Purchasing must include local suppliers
  • A separate area for cleaning fish, meat from fruits, and vegetables, should maintain hygienic standards
  • Effective insect and vermin protection should be carried out
  • Detergents and chemicals used should ideally be bio-degradable.

We recommend small luxury properties to respect drivers as fellow humans and provide proper accommodation facilities for drivers either within the premises or at proximity to the property. Drivers spend many hours with the guests, and thus are influenced during the tour.
